Utility Synergy Testimonials

There are few things as rewarding as a successful collaboration that solves a challenge. Our team of professional business consultants use their years of experience and knowledge to create lasting and rewarding relationships with our business partners. Check out what our clients are saying about working with Utility Synergy.

What Our Clients Say

We have been very impressed by the professional services provided over the last 6 years, regarding our renewals for energy. Particularly this year, which has been and continues to be turbulent, regarding energy price hikes.

I have been constantly updated with prices and clear explanations of the energy markets, and luckily have managed to secure a reasonable three year contract going forward. We are high energy users within our farming business, so are pleased that we have been advised well throughout the renewal process.

Thank you.

Jane Raven, Partner

Utility Synergy helped us to overcome issues we were having with our contract and another supplier. They were very sympathetic to the problems we were facing and we have received a very professional but personal service with patience, knowledge, honesty and understanding. It’s been very reassuring having one person looking after us who has been contactable by telephone as well as email. I cannot thank Utility Synergy enough for all the help they’ve given and would happily recommend them. I look forward to an easier future with them on board.

Diane Bradley, Partner

In relation to signing a new contract for my business utility suppliers, I found Utility Synergy to be very patient and professional in organising this for me. An initial contact was not the appropriate time and they agreed to a contact one month later and did this at the date and time required. Several options were offered for me to contemplate and with a little guidance, a new supplier was agreed upon. In an industry that seems to have pressurised callers, I did not find this to be the case at all with Utility Synergy. Sometimes feeling comfortable with the person/company you are dealing with is of paramount importance.

Philip James Darleston, Director

I have been very impressed by all that Utility Synergy has done to negotiate a much better contract for the gas supply at our Legion. They kept in touch with me throughout the various steps that led to a good deal. It was also very helpful that they helped with the completion of the electronic contract document sent by the provider.

Colonel Jim Gibb OBE TD, Chairman

Utility Synergy has been working with us for a number of years and during that time they have been a massive help to us. We found that they were extremely knowledgeable, honest, and got us good deals on our utility services. We are more than happy to continue dealing with Utility Synergy as the trust we have built is invaluable.

Keiron Kirkpatrick, Club Secretary

Utility Synergy was a great help when I was trying to change and unlock our gas and electric accounts. Not only did they take this head-on, but they actually also got us the best deals saving us money with other suppliers. They give such a personal service and I feel I can put my full trust in all they do, therefore I would highly recommend them personally to anyone looking for help with their business utility accounts.
I would also like to say thank you for all they have done in helping myself and others in this most valued service.

Working with Us

What is a Letter of Authority (LoA)?

A Letter of Authority (LoA) is required when you appoint a broker or comparison service to act on your behalf. This document authorises the third party to access your energy account information and engage with suppliers to obtain quotes and negotiate terms. However, it is important to note that no contract can be agreed without your explicit approval and signed authorisation, ensuring that you retain full control over all final decisions.

How do our fees and commissions work?

Remuneration can be structured in several ways. We may receive commission from energy suppliers, charge a direct consultancy fee, or operate on a combination of both. In many cases, commission is incorporated into the unit rate or standing charge, which can influence the overall cost across the duration of the contract. Full transparency is a priority—clear written confirmation of any fees or commissions will always be provided before any agreement is finalised.

How is Utility Synergy regulated?

Energy suppliers are only permitted to work with accredited brokers. We operate in line with industry standards and are proud members of the Energy Ombudsman scheme, which provides independent dispute resolution services for business customers.

Which suppliers do you work with?

We work with a broad panel of reputable UK energy suppliers, including British Gas, Scottish Power, EDF, Valda Energy, Smartest Energy, EON, Yu Energy, Crown Gas & Power, and others. This wide network enables us to source competitive and appropriate solutions tailored to each client’s needs.

Key Considerations When Choosing a Business Energy Deal

Does the energy price cap apply to businesses?

No. The energy price cap applies exclusively to domestic energy customers and does not extend to business tariffs, which are governed by separate contractual agreements. Although changes to the domestic cap do not directly impact commercial energy pricing, monitoring these trends can still provide useful context when assessing the right time to review or secure a new business energy contract.

What happens when my business energy contract ends?

When your contract comes to an end, your existing supplier will usually offer renewal rates. However, these may not always be the most competitive options available in the market. If no action is taken, your business will typically be placed on out-of-contract rates, which are often significantly higher. To avoid unnecessary costs, it is advisable to review your options early and secure a new fixed-rate agreement to take effect immediately after your current contract expires.

Is the cheapest energy deal always the best?

Not necessarily. While choosing the lowest-priced option can help reduce immediate overheads, the most suitable energy deal is one that aligns with your business’s specific needs and long-term objectives. Factors such as contract flexibility, supplier reliability, and future pricing stability should all be considered. Our approach focuses on securing solutions that deliver sustainable value, not just short-term savings.

Switching & Contract Management

When can I switch business energy supplier?

You can begin comparing business energy quotes once your contract enters its renewal window—typically a few months before the end date, although this timeframe varies by supplier. Securing a new agreement during this period ensures a seamless transition when your current contract ends.

If you have recently moved into new premises and are on deemed rates, or if your contract has already expired and you are on out-of-contract rates, you are free to compare and switch suppliers at any time.

How long does it take to switch business energy suppliers?

Switching timescales depend on the size of your business. Microbusinesses can often switch within five working days under Ofgem’s Faster Switching rules. For larger businesses, the process may take up to 30 days. In all cases, the new supply contract will only commence once your current agreement has ended.

Will my business be disrupted when I switch suppliers?

No. Switching business energy suppliers is a straightforward administrative process and does not interrupt your energy supply. There is no requirement for new installations or physical changes, as your new supplier will use the existing infrastructure, including meters, pipes, and cables.

Are business energy contracts legally binding?

Yes. Business energy contracts are legally binding and do not require a physical signature to be enforceable—agreements can be made verbally, including over the phone. Importantly, there is no cooling-off period for business energy contracts. For this reason, it is essential to fully understand the terms and conditions before agreeing, and where possible, to request written confirmation of all details prior to committing.

Can I switch business energy if I’m in debt with my current supplier?

In most circumstances, switching will not be permitted if your account has been in debt for more than 28 days. Your current supplier may block the transfer until any outstanding balance has been cleared. Resolving the debt is typically required before a new supplier can take over the supply.

Costs, Billing & Compliance

How does the Climate Change Levy affect business energy?

The Climate Change Levy (CCL) is a government-imposed tax applied to business energy consumption, designed to encourage improved efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. While most businesses are subject to the standard rate, certain organisations may qualify for exemptions or reduced rates depending on their industry sector or energy usage profile.

Do business energy tariffs offer a dual fuel option?

No. Unlike domestic energy arrangements, the commercial energy market does not offer dual fuel discounts. Gas and electricity are always supplied under separate contracts. However, businesses may choose to appoint the same supplier for both fuels to simplify billing and account management processes.
